Students,

The University of Arizona’s Department of English is offering a section of the First-Year Composition I (ENGL 101) course with a focus on Indigenous issues for the Fall 2022 semester.

The class is scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 1 pm under Diné lecturer Steve Pelletier.

Per the University of Arizona website, ENGL 101 is a first-year composition course that covers college writing skills and familiarizes students with the social and situated nature of writing–that is, with the ways in which writing is tied to purpose, audience/community, and topic/content. This Diné course will focus on contemporary Native American authors and artists while giving students an opportunity to consider texts and scripts that deal with Native American self-representation.

Throughout the course, students will analyze and determine how these different types of texts are composed and the issues and topics each text presents as important for Indigenous self-representation.

First year Indigenous students are encouraged to register for the course, which can be done online.
